PRO TIP – ‘Pull the trigger’: Pre-shot routine
If you have a DO have a pre-shot routine – this message is for you. Golf and sport phycologists have found that the longer you stay still, or the longer you spend looking at the golf ball at address – the results of a good shot drastically deteriorate. Once you have finished your routine and about to hit/putt the ball – don’t take any time. The faster you can pull the trigger, the better the chance of a good shot. The problem is that the longer your over the ball standing still or not moving, the brain begins overthinking, second guessing, muscle tension increases and the body’s ability to execute begins to decrease. It may feel funny at first but in essence, the faster you can pull the trigger, the less likely things start breaking down. Pull the trigger!
If you don’t have a consistent pre-shot routine, you definitely should start thinking about what it is, how it helps and where to start, especially if your someone who has a great front 9 and a bad back 9 or vice versa. A pre-shot routine will help. (note: a pre-shot routine doesn’t mean your game slows down). Studies from sports psychologists in golf have discovered those who have a consistent pre-shot routine have a 50% chance of shooting better scores.
